Benzalkonium Chloride for Hospital & Healthcare Surface Disinfection

Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC / ADBAC) is the global reference active for hospital and clinical surface disinfectants. The cationic quat binds negatively-charged microbial membranes and inactivates gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, yeasts and enveloped viruses. Vasudev Chemo Pharma supplies both BKC 50% (ready-to-use) and BKC 80% (blender concentrate) grades for disinfectant formulators.

Efficacy and in-use concentrations

Typical hospital hard-surface disinfection uses 0.1%–0.4% active quat (1,000–4,000 ppm). Efficacy is validated under EN 1276 (bactericidal), EN 1650 (fungicidal) and EN 14476 (virucidal, incl. enveloped viruses such as coronaviruses and influenza). BKC is the active in many EPA List N products for use against SARS-CoV-2 and is effective at room temperature.

Formulation notes

BKC is compatible with nonionic (alcohol ethoxylates, APGs) and amphoteric (betaine) surfactants for cleaner-disinfectant blends, but is deactivated by anionic surfactants. Blenders typically start from BKC 80% concentrate and dilute to 50% or final use; end-users can dose directly from BKC 50%. Provide contact time per the target organism and surface.
