Preservative use levels
In finished pharmaceuticals BKC is used at 0.001%–0.01% active in eye drops and nasal sprays, 0.001%–0.005% in contact-lens solutions, and up to ~0.1% in topical antiseptics, validated by USP <51> antimicrobial effectiveness testing. It provides multi-dose preservation against bacteria, fungi and yeast.
