Benzalkonium Chloride as a Swimming Pool & Spa Algicide
Benzalkonium Chloride is a widely used algicide and supplementary sanitiser for residential and commercial swimming pools, spas and water features. Vasudev Chemo Pharma supplies BKC 50% (ready-to-blend) and BKC 80% (concentrate) to pool-chemical formulators.

Dosing and synergy
A typical preventive dose is 5–15 ppm active quat (about 10–30 mL of BKC 50% per 1,000 L pool water) applied weekly. BKC works synergistically with chlorine, bromine and salt-chlorinated systems — especially at elevated pH where chlorine alone is less effective — and controls Pseudomonas, green/black algae and chlorine-resistant biofilms.
As an algicide raw material
Pool-chemical brands formulate retail algicides at ~10%–20% BKC (from 80% concentrate) with stabilisers, fragrances and dyes. BKC is non-foaming at recommended pool concentrations and does not significantly shift pH, and it is compatible with standard chlorine, bromine, salt, UV and ozone systems.
