How EDDM Removes H2S
EDDM is a slow-release formaldehyde donor. In service it liberates formaldehyde, which reacts with hydrogen sulfide to form water-soluble, non-volatile products, permanently removing the H2S from the stream. The reaction proceeds at ambient temperature, so no heating is required, and because EDDM contains no nitrogen or amine functionality, it does not raise system pH the way an amine triazine can. The same formaldehyde-donor action gives EDDM broad-spectrum biocidal activity, which is why the compound also serves as an in-can preservative and industrial biocide.
